Our First STEM Challenge!

To wrap up our unit on Community Helpers, we pretended to be builders and constructed houses (or structures) out of toothpicks and gum drops.

First Grade joined us.

Their structures were simple at first.

But they kept tinkering with them and the structures grew and grew.

Zaila's looked like a carousel.

Some children were more concerned with the color of their gum drops than their structure, but everyone had fun!

Efe's house had wings.

Levi was going for height.

Allison had a Willy Wonka structure.

Jess couldn't stop to look up at me.  ;-)

Here's the whole crew of proud builders.

Nicholas made  man to go with his house.

We will definitely be doing more of these challenges, I think I had as much fun as the kiddos.  Thanks to Nicholas's mom for providing the needed supplies.

Community Helper Week!

We made these cute little Police hats on Wednesday.

Nicholas's mom and her friend Mr. Jai, came to talk to the class on Wednesday and talked about their jobs in education and travelling around the world.

Mr. Jai showed them money he collected from around the world.

They loved that the money was all different sizes.
