Annual Sr. K Pet Show 2017

Lena and her dog, Uma were the first to kick off our Annual Sr. K Pet Show today.  Uma was a beautiful lab mix who got a little excited when the other dogs started arriving.  She won the award for the Loudest Pet.

Shippe was proud to display two of his 60 chickens.  The two Silkies he brought are named Chicken and Dumplins.  They won the award for the Fuzziest Pets.

Paige told us all about her dog, Samson, who won the award for the Sweetest Pet.

Parker showed off his Beta fish with the awesome name: Blue Fin Ninja Chaos.
Blue Fin Ninja Chaos won the award for the Shortest Pet.

Ryn brought pictures of her gigantic dog, Brees.

Here they are showing Brees's talent: Singing!!  Brees won the award for the Biggest Pet.

Here is a throwback to 2014, when Brees was just a puppy making his first appearance in our Pet Show with big sister Becca.  Ryn has changed a bit as well.

Brendan brought his stuffed animal, Sadie, and told us about his dog Sadie who passed away.  Sadie was 16 years old when she died.  She was posthumously awarded the honor of being the Oldest Pet.

Another throwback to 2014 when Sadie came to our Show with Brendan's dad and sister, Loughran.
Rosie was proud to tell us about her dog, Dixie.

Here Dixie is showing us on of her cool tricks--rolling over.  Dixie won the award for the Prissiest Pet.

Katie Grace brought two entries for the Pet Show: Einstein (the taller dog) and Houston (the smaller dog).  Einstein and Houston won the Awards for the Fluffiest Pets.

Rivers told us all about his dog Hyper, who was so mean, Rivers couldn't even get his folder out of his backpack this morning.  Hyper won the award for the Cutest Pet.

Caroline brought her sweet pup, Jasmine.  Jasmine won the award for being the Friendliest Pet.
Rosie brought one of her two bunnies. (The gray one is much too scratchy to bring to school.) Her bunny, Furball, won the award for being the Softest Pet.

Briley's dog, Kudzu, waited very patiently for his turn then showed off some pretty cool tricks.  Kudzu won the award for the Calmest Pet.

Megan showed pictures of her dog and four cats.  Her dog's name is Jenny and the cats are: Spot, Mini Me, Figaro, and Cutie Pie.  Her pets won the award for having the Funniest Names.

So after sitting through 13 speakers, the children were itching to get up and pet the animals.

Community Helpers Week!

Our first speaker was Jake Parmer from North East Mississippi Electric Power Association.

He spoke to the children about his job.  Here he is showing how they repair electrical lines by splicing them together.

Once the wire has been spliced, it can't be pulled apart.

He let us try on his giant safety gloves.

And his hard hat.

It was a little bit big on us.

Rivers

He brought us our very own lineman hats and a bunch of other goodies and answered all of our questions.

On Wednesday, two Police Officers came to speak to the class.

Officers Weekley and Brown answered all of our questions and talked to us about safety.

Here we are sporting our own police hats and a "mean mugging" expression.

"Charlie's Angels" Style

Caroline

Nurse Lindsey Hemphill came to talk to the children on Wednesday as well.

She brought fun tools for the children to try out.
Taking my temperature.

Listening to our heartbeats.

On Thursday, Briley's grandmother came to talk to the children about being a nurse practitioner.

We tried out her tools as well.

Group hug!

Also on Thursday, Dr. Allison Ross came to talk to us about her job as a dentist and how to take good care of our teeth.  We all had a turn brushing his teeth.

On Friday, Ruby's mom, Lesley, came to talk to the children about her job as a professor at Ole Miss.

We love cheering for the Rebels!

What a fun and engaging week!  Thanks so much to all of our wonderful speakers for making this possible!
