Fun Friday!

Fun Friday began with a visit from Jake's dad, Judge Ed Roberts. He spoke to the children about his job as a judge for our unit on Community Helpers. They were all tickled when he told them he had to wear a robe in court. ;-)

For our Cooking Show, we constructed houses from pretzel sticks and gum drops. These proved to be rather unstable, but we had fun knocking them down and tasting them!

Grandparents Are Grand!

On Thursday we performed for our parents and grandparents in celebration of National Grandparents Day. We sang songs, recited a poem, and presented our grandparents with hand painted portraits and handmade eyeglass cases. We had a lovely reception following the program. Thanks to Jennifer Kincaid and everyone who contributed items to the reception. Also, thanks to everyone for coming!

Turtle Tricks!

Our new turtles seem to be adjusting well to the noisy surroundings of Sr. K. They no longer dive in the water when we get close to the tank...as long as we approach quietly. They have taken to turtle stacking, which we though was quite a talent. It turns out that they are competing for the heat of the basking lamp...may need to get a stronger bulb. For now, it's just fun to watch. :-)

Surface Safari!

We went on a Surface Safari this morning to test how well our cars rolled on different surfaces. We recorded the results in our Surface Safari books which will be sent home today. What a fun way to wrap up a unit on Transportation!

First, we tried grass.

Then we went up to Miss Frances's room to try her sandbox.

Next we tried the carpet near Miss Stephanie's desk.

Then we borrowed Miss Sarah's Moon Sand to use in place of wet sand.

EVERYONE'S car rolled fast on tile!

Lastly we tried our cars on our new squares. (Thanks PSG!)
