Fiddlin' Rooster Farm

Cow Cars were a real hit!
We used the butter we made on little corn muffins.

Whoosh!

Waiting to go in.

Making butter took a long time!

Cow Cars again.

We picked the seeds out of cotton and then used the cotton to make "living necklaces".

We ALL tried our faces in here. :-)

Aren't we cute?

Notice the flying corn in the background.

A Peek At This Week
We've had a nice short week learning all about pumpkins. In Language we worked on the letters Ii and Ww and the sounds they make. We began segmenting words which is new and a little challenging. For example, I say "score" then the children take off the 's' and say the word "core". With practice we will be good at it! In Math we completed Chapter 7, "Numbers 10-20". We also made fun Halloween windsocks and fun messy free painting with sparkly Halloween colors.
The children were disappointed that our field trip had to be rescheduled but we are all looking forward to going to the farm on Tuesday. Your child will need to wear any OUS shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes. Please send a sack lunch with an extra drink as poking around the pumpkin patch makes one thirsty.
Thanks!!
Thanks to Sharp's mom, Roane for our pumpkin and the cooking show items for this week. Thanks to Jack's mom, Bridget for story and snack on Thursday. The children enjoyed the scones!
Looking Ahead
Next week our unit will be Bats. Our letters will be Uu and Ll and our new sight words will be if, run, & jump. In Math we will begin Chapter 6, "Shapes and Parts of Shapes". On Monday afternoon, Miss Sarah and I will be attending a Six Traits of Writing workshop. We will be back in time for dismissal. On Friday, we will dismiss at 12:45. The afternoon is set aside for parent-teacher conferences. I have made a tentative schedule of times, please let me know if your time does not work.

Have a great weekend and thanks for all that you do! I am looking forward to meeting with everyone on Friday. :-)

Spiders!

Check out these yummy spiders! By the end of Friday our numbers were a little low but we made the best of it. Thanks to everyone who sent items for our cooking show. The children look forward to creating fun edible things.
We had a great week learning about spiders, skeletons, and Columbus. Next week our unit will be Pumpkins and we will travel to the Fiddlin' Rooster Farm in Water Valley. There will be no school on Monday.

What a Great Day!

After our first Friday assembly in two weeks, we headed upstairs to our room. We completed our weekly language assessment and made some neat Indian corn for the upstairs bulletin board. Then Mary's mom came and helped us decorate yummy chocolate cupcakes for Halloween.

Next we had a visit from the Oxford Fire Department. We got to see their truck and lots of tools, including the Jaws of Life. As they were finishing up our presentation, they received a real alarm call and rushed away to assist with a car wreck.
The children were so very excited to see them in action!

Next we moved back to the classroom for a talk with the Fire Department's Fire Safety Educator. He reinforced all of the information the children learned this week. Then he and Emory had a race to see who could get into their gear faster.
After lunch, Mary's dad came to read us a story. How sweet is the look on her face?
