New Math Tubs

We have four new Math Tub games that the children love.
In this game called "Two Digit Big Man", students flip over two cards and try to make the biggest number possible. A 5 and a 9 could make 59 or 95. The object is to make the highest number you can in order to win your opponent's cards.

"Number Rolls" are Jackson's and Sharp's favorite. They started last Monday on number 1 and are both now over 1000! It took a while for the class to understand that they can't write the numbers to infinity. :-)

"Three Card Zero" has students flipping over three cards then adding the sums. The player with the highest sum wins the cards for the round.

In this game, "Chop", players chop a known amount of cubes into two pieces. The other player puts one set behind her back. The "chopper" then has to look at the shown cubes and figure out how many are behind the other player's back.

Chicken Update

Miss Angela is happy to report that the chicks are on their way back to their farm in Pontotoc via the sweet ladies at The Clay Canvas. Keep the Clay Canvas in mind when you need a keepsake or craft. The ladies there are so sweet and the treasures you make will last forever!!

Happy Secretary's Day!

We surprised Miss Stephanie with a book that we wrote about her. You might be surprised to learn that Miss Stephanie "owns the school", or that she is the "boss of OUS" hehehe but we love and appreciate her very much!!
Miss Stephanie let each student read their own page to everyone.

We LOVE Miss Stephanie!!!

Our First Annual Egg Drop was so much fun!
Thank you, Parents, for all your help with this event.
We made bird's nests. Thanks to everyone for sending ingredients for our Cooking Show!

I'm not sure what look Jack was going for......lol.

The chickens are getting bigger.

We finally got to hold them!

We Hatched Chickens!!!

We arrived this morning to find nine baby chicks had hatched overnight.

We all had a turn checking them out.

Some of us couldn't tear ourselves away. :-)

We spent a lot of time peeking into the incubator.

And even more time watching the chicks.

Six more hatched throughout the day.

We got to see two of them actually coming out of their shells!

Seeing if any more hatched....the flashlight helps.

Aren't they cute?!

We will keep them until Friday afternoon. Farm animals get very stinky!

The little chicks will return to the farmer who gave us the eggs.

*No animals were harmed in the making of this event. :-)

**It was really hard to do our work!!

Sunflowers!

For Cooking Show on Friday we made edible sunflowers.
The children covered rice cakes with yellow frosting and then added chocolate chips for the seeds. We talked about how each ingredient came from a plant. What a fun way to culminate our unit on plants!

Thursday

We candled the chicken and duck eggs. All of the 24 chicken eggs looked viable, but none of the duck eggs did so we removed them from the incubator. They chicks should hatch next Thursday.

We love all the improvements made to the treehouse area.
